The Amazonas Region is a special part of Peru. It is located in the northwest area of the country. The main city and capital of this region is Chachapoyas.

Geography
The Amazonas Region is a mix of different landscapes. A big part of it, about 73%, is covered by rainforests. These forests stretch north all the way to the border with Ecuador, reaching the high peaks of the Cordillera del Cóndor mountains. The other part of the region, about 27%, has many mountain ranges. These mountains are mostly found in the southern provinces of the Amazonas Region.
People
Many different groups of people live in the Amazonas Region. Among them are the Aguaruna and Huambisa communities.
Languages
According to a study in 2007, most people in the Amazonas Region speak Spanish. About 85 out of every 100 people learned Spanish first. However, many people also speak native languages. About 15 out of every 100 people speak a native language as their first language.
