Nikolai Tanayev's Political Journey
Nikolai Tanayev started as a Deputy Prime Minister. This means he was like a second-in-command to the Prime Minister. On May 22, 2002, he became the acting Prime Minister. This happened after the previous Prime Minister, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, left office.
Just eight days later, the Supreme Council, which is like Kyrgyzstan's parliament, officially approved him. This made him the Prime Minister.
Surviving a Vote
While he was Prime Minister, there was a special vote on April 8, 2004. This vote was called a "motion of no confidence." It meant that some lawmakers wanted to remove him from his job. The vote was 27 to 14 to remove him. However, they needed 30 votes for him to be removed. So, he stayed in office.
A Unique Leader
Nikolai Tanayev was special for another reason. He was the first Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan who was not of Asian descent. This was since Kyrgyzstan became an independent country.
Life After Politics
On March 24, 2005, Nikolai Tanayev resigned from his role as Prime Minister. This happened during a time of big political change in Kyrgyzstan. This period is known as the Tulip Revolution.
Moving to Russia
About a month later, he moved to his home region of Penza in Russia. There, he became a special helper for foreign economic relations. This meant he worked on business and trade connections with other countries.
Questions About Funds
Later, some questions were raised about how certain government money was used. These questions involved a company that was connected to his son. Nikolai Tanayev then moved to live in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He lived at 6 Bolshaya Morskaya Street.
