About Nilda Fernandez

Early Life and Moving to France

Daniel Fernandez was born in Barcelona, Spain, on October 25, 1957. When he was six years old, his family moved to France and settled in the city of Lyon. Later, Daniel returned to Spain and studied philology in Barcelona.

Starting His Music Career

Nilda Fernandez released his first record, Le Bonheur Comptant, in 1981. It didn't become very popular at the time. After this, Daniel worked many different jobs to support himself. He also kept singing for small groups of people. During this time, he started using the stage name Nilda, which was a new way of arranging the letters in his own name.

In 1987, Nilda released a song called Madrid, Madrid. But he became truly famous a few years later, in 1991. This was when he released an album also named Nilda Fernández. This album included popular songs like 'Nos fiancailles', 'L'invitation à Venise', and his earlier hit 'Madrid Madrid'.

Awards and Recognition

Nilda Fernandez received five nominations for the important French music awards called 'Victoires de la Musique'. He won the award for 'Best Male Promise' that year. In the same year, he also received the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros, another major award for artists. In 1993, he released another album, also called Nilda Fernández, which was very well-liked. It featured songs such as 'Marie-Madeleine' and 'On t'a appris'.

Later Career and Travels

In 1995, Nilda wrote a book called Ça repart pour un soliloque. He also worked with Russian pop singer Boris Moiseev.

In 1999, Nilda released Castelar 704. For this album, he set poems by Federico García Lorca to music, working with Spanish guitarists like Tomatito. He also paid tribute to other French singers he admired, like Léo Ferré and Jane Birkin, by singing their songs.

Nilda Fernandez took a break from the main music scene after a tour in Russia in 2000. He chose to live in Russia for the next five years. In 2006, he returned to performing concerts in France, Belgium, Russia, Switzerland, and Cuba.

In March 2007, Nilda published his second book, Les Chants du monde. This book was based on a diary he kept while living in Russia.

New Music and Autobiography

Nilda returned to the French stage with his album 'Ti amo'. This album was recorded entirely in Genova, Italy, and came out on January 8, 2010.

In 2017, a Parisian publisher released Nilda's autobiography, 'Contes de mes 1001 vies'. In this book, he shared stories and adventures from his life as a traveling singer. He also wrote about his family's history and remembered his childhood and teenage years spent between France and Spain.

Nilda Fernandez passed away on May 19, 2019, in his hometown of Bize-Minervois. He was 61 years old and died after heart failure.
