About Patrick Bruel
His Early Life
Patrick Bruel was born Patrick Benguigui. His mother was a teacher. When he was young, he dreamed of becoming a soccer player. However, after seeing a concert by the singer Michel Sardou in 1975, he decided to become a singer instead.
Music and Acting Career
Patrick Bruel first became known as an actor. His first movie was Le Coup de sirocco in 1979. He kept acting in movies, TV shows, and plays while also starting his singing career. His first song, "Vide" ("Empty"), came out in 1982 but was not a big hit. However, his next song, "Marre de cette nana-là" ("Fed up with that chick"), became very popular.
In 2003, Patrick changed his name to Bruel-Benguigui. This combined his stage name with his birth name. He did this just before his first child, Oscar, was born on August 19. He later married Amanda Sthers in 2004, and their second child, Léon, was born in 2005. They separated in 2007.
By 2004, Patrick Bruel had acted in over 40 TV and film projects. He also released many studio and live music albums. In 2002, he released Entre Deux, a double album of classic French songs. This album featured duets with other famous singers like Charles Aznavour and Jean-Jacques Goldman. It sold two million copies, making him France's highest-paid singer that year. In 2005, after the big tsunami in Asia, he wrote a song called "Et puis la terre" to help the Red Cross. His album "Des souvenirs devant" was his fourth album to reach the top of the charts in France.
Poker Playing
Patrick Bruel is also a very skilled professional poker player. He won a special award called a World Series of Poker bracelet in 1998. This was for winning a $5,000 Limit Hold'em game. By 2009, he had won over $900,000 from playing in poker tournaments. He also helps explain the World Poker Tour in France.
