Nina Compton is an award-winning Saint Lucian chef who lives in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is famous for her amazing cooking and for being a runner-up on the TV show Top Chef.

Nina's Culinary Journey
Nina Compton studied cooking at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. After graduating, she started her career in New York City. She worked with famous chef Daniel Boulud and his team, learning many important cooking skills.
Later, Nina moved to Miami. There, she worked at well-known restaurants like Norman’s and Palme d’Or. She also worked at Casa Casuarina, a private club, where she became the Executive Chef. This means she was in charge of the whole kitchen!
In 2008, Nina helped open the refurbished Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel. She worked with another great chef, Scott Conant, and became a Chef de Cuisine. This role meant she was a lead chef in the kitchen.
Becoming a TV Star
Nina became very well known when she competed on Top Chef in its 11th season. She was the runner-up, meaning she came in second place. Viewers also voted her their "fan favorite" because they loved her personality and cooking.
Opening Her Own Restaurants
In June 2015, Nina Compton opened her very own restaurant in New Orleans. It's called Compère Lapin. This restaurant serves delicious Caribbean-style food, which is inspired by the flavors of the Caribbean islands.
A few years later, in March 2018, Nina opened another restaurant in New Orleans. It's called Bywater American Bistro. She opened it with her husband, Larry Miller, and another chef, Levi Rains.
Awards and Recognition
Nina Compton has won many awards for her cooking.
- In 2017, Food & Wine magazine named her "Best New Chef."
- Her restaurant, Compère Lapin, was also named one of America's 38 Best Restaurants by Eater in 2017.
- In 2018, Nina won a very important award called the James Beard Foundation Award for "Best Chef: South." This is like winning an Oscar for chefs!
Nina's Family Life
Nina Compton is married to Larry Miller. Her father was Sir John George Melvin Compton, who was a very important person in Saint Lucia. He served as the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia three times.
