Ninotchka "Nina" García (born May 3, 1965) is a famous Colombian-American fashion expert. She is the editor-in-chief of Elle magazine. Nina García is also a well-known author. Many people know her as a judge on the TV show Project Runway. She has been a judge on the show since it first started.

Early Life and School

Nina García was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. She went to the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She finished there in 1983. Later, she earned a bachelor's degree from Boston University.

She also studied fashion in Paris at Esmod. In 1992, she got another bachelor's degree. This one was in fashion merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

Nina García started her career in fashion in the early 1980s. She worked in public relations for Perry Ellis. At that time, Marc Jacobs was the designer there.

Working in Fashion Magazines

After working with Marc Jacobs, García joined Mirabella magazine. She worked as an Assistant Stylist and Market Editor. Then, she moved to Elle magazine. In 2000, she became the Fashion Director of Elle.

She later became the Editor-at-Large for Elle until August 2008. In 2012, Nina García was named the creative director of Marie Claire magazine. In September 2017, she became the editor-in-chief of Elle. She was the first Latina to lead a major American fashion magazine.

Other Exciting Work

Nina García's work goes beyond just fashion magazines. She has also worked in television. She has hosted the red carpet for ABC's Oscar show.

She has been a judge on the popular TV show Project Runway since 2004. This show has won a Peabody Award. Nina García also shares her style advice on many TV programs. These include Good Morning America, The View, Today, and CNN.

In 2015, she got the Champion of Educational Excellence Award. This was from the Oliver Scholars Program. In 2021, she received the Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Sheppard. This was for her work with Elle magazine. In 2022, USA Today honored her as one of the Women of the Year. In 2023, she was named a Great Immigrant by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Nina García is married to David Conrod. He is the CEO of FocusPoint Private Capital Group. They have two children together. The family lives in New York.
