Nineveh is a small, unincorporated community in Nineveh Township, Johnson County, Indiana, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it doesn't have its own city government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

The Name of Nineveh

Nineveh got its name from Nineveh Creek. This creek was named after a hunter called Nineveh Berry. Legend says he fell into the creek while hunting for deer!

Filming Hoosiers

Did you know a famous movie was filmed in Nineveh? Scenes from the classic basketball film Hoosiers were shot at the old Nineveh Elementary School. For the movie, the school was renamed "Hickory High School."

The last group of students attended classes there in 1985. This was right when the movie was being filmed! After that, the school closed its doors. Students then moved to Indian Creek Elementary School in Trafalgar. Sadly, the old school building was later destroyed by a fire.
