Nino Schurter (born May 13, 1986) is a famous Swiss cross-country cyclist. He rides for the Scott–Sram MTB Racing Team. He is known as one of the best mountain bikers ever.
Nino has won the World Championship in men's cross-country ten times! These wins happened in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. He also won the overall UCI World Cup nine times. He was the first man to achieve this many World Cup titles.
He has also had great success at the Olympic Games. He won a gold medal in mountain biking at the 2016 Olympics. He also earned a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics.

Nino's Cycling Journey
Nino Schurter grew up in Tersnaus, a town in Switzerland. He loved spending time outdoors and quickly became interested in mountain biking. He started racing in a Swiss competition called the Swisspower Cup, where he won his first races.
In 2003, Nino joined a professional team. He became a full professional rider in 2007. He joined the SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team, which was known by different names before. He currently rides a special bike called the Scott Spark RC World Cup EVO.
Early Success in 2004
Nino Schurter had his first big international win as a junior rider in 2004. He finished first at the European Championships in Poland. This showed everyone he was a rising star in mountain biking.
Olympic Medals and World Titles
The year 2012 was very successful for Nino. He won 11 out of 15 races. He won his first World Cup race of the season in South Africa. He also won another World Cup on his 26th birthday. Later that year, he won the overall World Cup series title.
At the 2012 Olympics, Nino won a silver medal. He was very close to winning gold, losing in a final sprint. In September 2012, he won his second World Championship title in Austria.
In 2013, Nino won his third World Championship title. This win happened in South Africa, on one of his favorite courses.
Trying Road Racing
In 2014, Nino Schurter tried something different. He joined an Australian road race cycling team called Orica–GreenEDGE. He competed in some road races like the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de Suisse.
However, in 2014, he did not win the World Cup or World Championships in mountain biking. He finished second in Norway and behind another great rider, Julien Absalon, in the World Cup.
Focusing on Mountain Biking
In 2015, Nino decided to focus completely on his mountain bike career. He had his sights set on the 2016 Olympics in Rio. He competed for Switzerland at the 2015 European Games in mountain biking and won the gold medal there.
Olympic Gold in 2016
Nino Schurter won his fifth World Championship in men's cross-country in 2016. This win tied the record held by Julien Absalon. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, he achieved his dream. He won the gold medal, finishing ahead of Jaroslav Kulhavý and Carlos Coloma Nicolás.
A Perfect Season in 2017
In 2017, Nino Schurter had an amazing year. He won the Absa Cape Epic for the first time. This is a tough eight-day stage race in South Africa. He raced with his teammate Matthias Stirnemann and they won by a good margin.
After that, he went on to win all six rounds of the World Cup. This meant he had a Perfect Season, a rare achievement where a rider wins every single World Cup race. He also won his sixth World Championship that year.
