Early Life and Career Beginnings
Niren Lahiri was born in Kolkata, which was then part of British India, in 1907. His father's name was Jitendra Nath Lahiri. Niren Lahiri started his journey in the film world as an actor. He worked at Pramathesh Barua’s studio and later with Mr. Barua himself at New Theatres.
In 1940, he acted in a film called Abhinav, which was directed by Debaki Bose. Besides acting, Niren Lahiri also showed his talent as a music director. He created the music for films like Ashiana, Tarubala, and Annapurnar Mandir in 1936.
Becoming a Director
Niren Lahiri made his first movie as a director in 1940. It was called Byabodhan. He quickly became well-known for his directing skills. His film Bhabhi Kaal, released in 1945, was very popular and helped him gain fame.
Throughout his career, Niren Lahiri directed about 27 films. These movies included both Bengali and Hindi language films. He was a very important person in the film industry of his time. Niren Lahiri passed away in 1972, leaving behind a legacy of many memorable films.
