Club History
The Original Club (1897-1964)
The first Nithsdale Wanderers club started in 1897. They had some good success in their local area during their early years. The 1920s were their most famous time on a national level.
In 1923, they moved to a new ground called Crawick Holm. For the 1923–24 season, they were invited to join the Scottish League's new Third Division. This league only lasted for three seasons.
Even though the league was short-lived, Nithsdale Wanderers did very well. In the 1924–25 season, they won the Third Division championship! They secured the title with a big 8–0 win against Montrose in their final game.
After winning, they moved up to the Second Division. They finished in the middle of the table in their first season there. However, in the 1926–27 season, they finished last. They tried to stay in the league, but they were not successful. This ended their short time in the Scottish League.
The club kept playing in local senior competitions. These included the Southern Counties League and the South of Scotland League. They sometimes played in the Scottish Cup. In the 1930–31 competition, they had a tough 14–0 defeat against Dundee United.
In 1951, the club joined the "junior" football leagues. But they continued to struggle. The original Nithsdale Wanderers club finally stopped playing in 1964.
The Modern Club (2001-Present)
After 37 years, the name Nithsdale Wanderers was brought back. A new club was formed in 2001. They successfully joined the South of Scotland Football League.
Their best result in this league so far was finishing second place. This happened in the 2006–07 season. The team's home colours are blue and white.
Nithsdale Wanderers are "associate members" of the SFA. This means they can only play in the Scottish Cup if they win their league.
