Nithsdale Wanderers Football Club is a Scottish football team. They are based in Sanquhar, a town in Dumfries and Galloway. Their home field is called Lorimer Park. The team currently plays in the South of Scotland Football League.

The name "Nithsdale Wanderers" was also used by an older club from Sanquhar. That original club was part of the Scottish Football League from 1923 to 1927.

History of Nithsdale Wanderers

The Original Football Club (1897-1964)

The first Nithsdale Wanderers club started in 1897. In its early years, the team had some success in local games. The 1920s were their most famous period. They moved to a new home ground called Crawick Holm.

In the 1923–24 season, Nithsdale Wanderers were invited to join a new league. This was the Scottish Football League Third Division. This league only lasted for three seasons. It caused money problems for many clubs. However, Nithsdale Wanderers did well for a short time.

In 1924–25, the Wanderers won the Third Division championship. They won the title by beating Montrose 8–0 in their last game. After this, they moved up to the Scottish Football League Second Division. They finished in the middle of the table in their first season there.

However, in the 1926–27 season, they finished last. They had to ask to stay in the league, but they were not accepted. This ended their short time in the Scottish League. The club continued to play in local senior competitions. These included the Southern Counties League and the South of Scotland League. They sometimes played in the Scottish Cup. For example, in the 1930–31 competition, they lost 14–0 to Dundee United.

In 1951, the club joined the junior leagues. But they continued to struggle. The original Nithsdale Wanderers club stopped playing in 1964.

The Modern Football Club (2001-Present)

After 37 years, the name Nithsdale Wanderers was brought back. A new club with the same name started in 2001. They joined the South of Scotland Football League. Their best result so far was finishing second in the 2006–07 season.

The team's home colors are blue and white. The club is an associate member of the SFA. This means they can only play in the Scottish Cup if they win their league.
