Nixburg is a small community in Coosa County, Alabama, United States. It is called a census-designated place. This means it is an area that the government identifies for collecting statistics. It does not have its own local government like a city or town.
History of Nixburg
Nixburg was first settled around 1850. A man named Solomon Robbins, who came from North Carolina, started the community. It was first known as Robbinsville. Later, the name changed to Nixburg. This new name honored the Nix family, who were also early settlers in the area.
Nixburg had a post office that opened in 1836. It served the community for many years before closing in 1978.
A special bridge called the Oakachoy Covered Bridge used to be in Nixburg. It was a historic landmark, listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. Sadly, the bridge was destroyed by vandals on June 2, 2001.
Another important historical site in Nixburg is the Old Shiloh Cemetery. This cemetery is also listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.

Notable People from Nixburg
Some important people have come from Nixburg:
- Leven H. Ellis was the 15th Lieutenant Governor of Alabama. He served in this role from 1943 to 1947. The Lieutenant Governor is a high-ranking official in the state government.
- William Garrett was another important leader. He served as the Speaker of the House in Alabama. He was also an Alabama State Senator from 1863 to 1865. Later, he was part of the group that wrote the 1875 Alabama Constitutional Convention.
