Nobuhisa Yamada (born 10 September 1975) is a former Japanese football player. He spent his entire professional career playing for Urawa Reds. He also played for the Japan national team.

Yamada was known for being a very flexible player. He could play as a defender or a midfielder, usually on the right side of the field. He played over 500 league games for Urawa Reds in the J1 League. He also played 15 games for the Japan national team.

Club Career Highlights

Nobuhisa Yamada went to Fujieda Higashi High School. After finishing school, he joined Urawa Reds in 1994. He played his first league game on 27 April 1994. His first professional goal came later that year on 19 November 1994.

Yamada was a very versatile player. He mostly played as a right-side defender or midfielder. But he could also play as a stopper, libero, or even an attacking midfielder. He played more than 500 league matches for Urawa Reds. He was also the team captain from 2004 to 2008.

During his time, Urawa Reds won many important titles:

  • The J1 League in 2006.
  • The J.League Cup in 2003.
  • The Emperor's Cup in 2005 and 2006.
  • The AFC Champions League in 2007, which is a big Asian club competition.

He retired from playing football at the end of the 2013 season.

National Team Journey

Yamada played for Japan at different age levels. He was part of the Japan U-20 national team. This team played in the 1995 FIFA World Youth Championship in Qatar. He played in all 4 matches as a right midfielder. He even scored a goal against Burundi in that tournament.

He made his first appearance for the senior Japan on 20 November 2002. This was a friendly game against Argentina. In 2003, he played in most matches as a right-back. This included games in the 2003 Confederations Cup.
