Nodes Point Battery is an old military fort located at Nodes Point on the Isle of Wight in England. It was built a long time ago to help protect the island. Today, the area where the battery once stood is part of a holiday park.

What is Nodes Point Battery?

A "battery" is a military building that holds big guns. Nodes Point Battery was one of many forts built around the coast of Britain. These forts were called Palmerston Forts. They were named after Lord Palmerston, who was the Prime Minister at the time.

Why was it built?

The battery was built because people in Britain were worried about a possible attack from France. These forts were like a shield for the country. Construction of Nodes Point Battery started on August 16, 1901. It was finished by April 20, 1904.

What kind of guns did it have?

When it was first built, Nodes Point Battery had four large guns. It had two 9.2-inch guns and two 6-inch guns. These were powerful guns designed to protect the coast. By 1932, only the two 6-inch guns were still at the battery.

What happened to Nodes Point Battery?

After World War II, the battery was used for training. From 1949, soldiers from the Territorial Army trained there. They learned how to use coastal artillery. This type of defense became less important over time. In 1956, the army stopped using coastal artillery. The fort's guns were removed, and the land was sold. Now, the old battery site is part of a holiday park.
