How to Get to Nofuentes

  • Roads: The National Highway N-629 passes right through the area. This road connects towns like Trespaderne and Medina de Pomar.
  • Railways: Nofuentes once had a railway station. It was part of the Santander-Mediterráneo railway line. This line helped people travel and transport goods. However, the railway closed down in 1985.

Who Leads Nofuentes?

Every town has leaders who help manage things. In Nofuentes, the main mayor is José Pablo Quintanilla Rodriguez. He belongs to a political group called the Partido Popular. A mayor is like a town's chief executive. They help make decisions for the community.

Nofuentes Through Time

Nofuentes has a long and interesting history. Long ago, between 1785 and 1833, it was part of a larger area called Merindad de Cuesta Urria. This area was one of fourteen "parties" (like districts) in the Burgos region. Records from 1787 show that Nofuentes had "royal jurisdiction." This meant it was directly under the king's authority.

After a big change called the Ancien Régime (which means "Old Rule") ended, Nofuentes became part of the Merindad Cuesta-Urria town hall. This new local government was in the Villarcayo area. Nofuentes even became the capital of this new constitutional town hall.

Fun in Nofuentes: Festivities

Nofuentes celebrates two main local festivals each year. These are special times for the community to gather and have fun.

  • May 15: This day celebrates Saint Isidro Labrador. He is the patron saint of farmers.
  • June 29: This festival honors Saint Pedro and San Pablo de Tarso.

Places of Worship

San Pedro y San Pablo Church.

The main Catholic church in Nofuentes is called San Pedro y San Pablo. It is part of the larger Burgos Archbishopric´s diocese. This church is important because several nearby villages and a convent depend on it. These places include Cebolleros, Mijangos, Las Quintanillas, Urria (Burgos), Valdelacuesta, Villamagrín, Villapanillo, Villarán, and Villavedeo. The convent of Mother Clarisas of Nuestra Señora de Rivas also relies on this church.
