Nolan Richardson III (born July 16, 1964 – died May 13, 2012) was an American college basketball coach. He was the son of National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame coach Nolan Richardson.

Playing Basketball

Nolan Richardson III played basketball at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After high school, he played for two seasons at Tyler Junior College.

He then moved to Oklahoma State University for his last two years of college. During his time there, he played in 37 games and averaged about 6.5 points per game.

Coaching Career Highlights

Richardson started his coaching journey as an assistant coach at Langston University. While coaching there, he also earned his college degree in 1995.

After Langston, he joined his father's coaching staff at the University of Arkansas. He stayed with the Razorbacks for ten seasons. During these years, he helped coach the team to amazing success. They reached the Final Four of the NCAA tournament twice. Even better, they won the NCAA championship in 1994!

Head Coach at Tennessee State

In 2000, Richardson became the head coach for Tennessee State University. In his first two seasons, his teams had records of 10 wins and 19 losses, and 11 wins and 17 losses.

The 2002–03 season started with a record of 2 wins and 5 losses. During this season, he was suspended for not following a university rule. He later resigned from his position.

Later Life and Passing

Nolan Richardson III passed away on May 13, 2012. He was found at his home and his death was due to natural causes.
