Nora AlMatrooshi (Arabic: نورا المطروشي) was born in 1993. She is an amazing engineer and astronaut from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). She made history by becoming the first Arab woman to finish NASA's special astronaut training program.

Nora's Early Life and Education

Nora AlMatrooshi is a very smart and dedicated person. She studied to become a mechanical engineer. This means she learned how machines work and how to design them. She earned her degree from the United Arab Emirates University.

Learning Around the World

Nora loved to learn and explore different cultures.

  • In 2011, she took part in a big math competition called the International Mathematical Olympiad in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This shows how good she is with numbers and problem-solving.
  • In 2014, she studied in Finland at the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.
  • She also learned Korean at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea.

Her Work as an Engineer

Before becoming an astronaut, Nora worked as a piping engineer. Since 2016, she has been working for the UAE's National Petroleum Construction Company. She is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This group helps engineers learn and share ideas.

Becoming an Astronaut

In 2021, Nora AlMatrooshi was chosen for a very special job. She was one of only two people picked to join the second group of astronauts at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre in the UAE. This was a huge step towards her dream of going to space.

Training with NASA

Unlike the first group of UAE astronauts, Nora got an amazing opportunity. She was invited to train with NASA Astronaut Group 23 in the United States. NASA is the American space agency, famous for sending astronauts to the Moon and the International Space Station.

Making History

Nora worked incredibly hard during her training. In 2024, she officially graduated from NASA's astronaut program. She received her special astronaut pin, which is a symbol that she is ready for space missions. This made her the first Arab woman ever to complete this tough training. It's a big achievement for her and for women everywhere!
