Norbert Theodore "Nobby" Tiemann (July 18, 1924 – June 19, 2012) was an American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party. Tiemann served as the 32nd Governor of Nebraska from 1967 to 1971.

Early Life and Education

Norbert Tiemann was born in Minden, Nebraska. He went to Campbell High School in Campbell, Nebraska. He graduated from high school in 1942.

After high school, he joined the U.S. Army. He served his country during World War II. After the war, he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He earned his B.S. degree in 1949.

Family Life

Norbert Tiemann married Lorna L. Bornholdt on July 19, 1950. They had four children together. Their children were Amy Eileen, Lorna Christine, Mary Catherine, and Norbert Jr.

After his time in the Army, Tiemann served in Korea from 1950 to 1952. When he returned to the U.S., he began his political career.

Mayor of Wausa

Norbert Tiemann served three terms as the mayor of Wausa, Nebraska. This experience helped him prepare for bigger roles in government.

Governor of Nebraska

In 1966, Tiemann was elected Governor of Nebraska. He was a member of the Republican Party. As governor, he worked to bring many important changes to the state.

He helped create a new tax system for Nebraska. He also supported new programs to help schools with money. The University of Nebraska also grew during his time as governor. He helped pass the state's first minimum wage law. He also supported laws that promoted fair housing for everyone.

His term as governor happened during Nebraska's 100th birthday. The state legislature passed a record 632 bills during this time. He served one term as governor. He was not re-elected and was succeeded by J. James Exon.

Federal Highway Administration

From 1968 to 1969, Tiemann was part of the National Governors' Conference Executive Committee. Later, from June 1, 1973, to January 1977, he held a big job in the U.S. government. He was the Head of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration.

Later Life and Death

Norbert Tiemann passed away at his home in Dallas, Texas. He died on June 19, 2012, at the age of 87.
