Norene's Past: A Look Back
How Norene Got Its Name
Norene has an interesting history, especially when it comes to its name! When the local post office first opened in 1878, the community was known as "Henderson's Cross Roads." This name likely came from a local family or a crossroads where people met.
However, the name didn't stick forever. On February 17, 1915, the community officially changed its name to Norene. We don't know the exact reason for the name change, but it became the new identity for the area.
Growth of the Community
After its name change, Norene continued to grow. By 1916, it was one of the eight largest villages in Wilson County. About 100 people called Norene home at that time. Just a few years later, by 1930, the population had grown even more, reaching 120 residents. This shows that Norene was a busy and growing place in the early 20th century.
Education in Norene
Students living in Norene attend schools that are part of the Wilson County Schools system. This means that even though Norene is a small community, its young people have access to public education.
