The Norfolk Country Club is a special private club located at 50 Golf Drive in Norfolk, Connecticut. It started way back in the 1910s! This club is famous for its nine-hole golf course, which was designed by a well-known golf course architect named A.W. Tillinghast.

The club also has a beautiful clubhouse. It was designed by Alfredo S.G. Taylor and is so important that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. People at the club enjoy activities like dining, social events, golf, and tennis.

Where is the Norfolk Country Club?

The Norfolk Country Club is found southwest of the main village of Norfolk. Norfolk is a lovely summer resort town in the hills of northwestern Connecticut. The club sits on the west side of Golf Drive. It covers about 36 acres (15 ha) of land.

The clubhouse and tennis courts are close to Golf Drive. The large golf course takes up most of the club's property. The golf course was designed by A.W. Tillinghast. It first opened for play in 1928.

What Does the Clubhouse Look Like?

The clubhouse is a unique building shaped like the letter "U". It is made of wood and designed in a style called Georgian Revival. The open part of the "U" faces south, towards the main parking area. The side of the building facing west looks out over the golf course. It has many windows so people can enjoy the view.

Two brick chimneys stand tall near the bends of the "U" shape. Small, gabled windows stick out from the roof on the inside of the "U". The main entrance is in the middle of the "U". It has a covered porch supported by round columns. This porch has a rounded arch in its center. The ends of the "U" shape have pointed roofs with special windows called Palladian windows.

The clubhouse was built between 1915 and 1917. It was designed by Alfredo S.G. Taylor. He was an architect from New York City who spent his summers in Norfolk. He designed more than thirty buildings in the Norfolk area.
