About Norman Thavaud
Early Life and Interests
Norman Thavaud was born on 14 April 1987 in Arras, France. His mother was a teacher, and his father, Jackie Thavaud, worked to promote culture and led a local cinema school. From a young age, Norman was interested in creative arts. He played the saxophone for seven years. He also loved making videos with his father's camera.
After finishing high school in 2005, Norman moved to Paris. He wanted to study cinema and learn more about filmmaking. Before becoming a specialist in video editing, he worked several different jobs.
Starting with Le Velcrou
In college, Norman met Hugo Dessioux, also known as Hugo tout seul. In March 2008, they created a comedy group called "Le Velcrou." This group regularly posted funny videos on the Dailymotion website. A few months later, Marc Jarousseau, known as Kemar, joined their team. He was a friend from university.
Through Le Velcrou, Norman also met Cyprien Iov, another video blogger. Cyprien, known as Monsieur Dream, appeared in some of Le Velcrou's videos. In December 2008, Cyprien made a short funny film about Christmas called "Super Mega Noël." He included other bloggers in his film, like Hugo and Norman.
In July 2009, Norman earned a degree in cinematography from University Paris-1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. The Le Velcrou group stopped making videos together in October 2010. After that, the former members started creating their own solo videos.
Becoming a YouTube Star
At the end of 2010, Norman started a new video style. He made short videos, usually about four minutes long. In these videos, he played an "average person" and talked about everyday topics. His first solo video was called "Table tennis club." He created his YouTube account on January 3, 2011.
Two months later, he posted a video called "The bilinguals." This video became very popular and helped him become well-known. Later, his video "Now, I have Google" became even more popular. As of March 2021, his most-watched video is "Luigi Clash Mario," with over 86 million views. Norman records his videos in his apartment in Paris. He lives there with his flatmate and his two cats, Sergi and Becassine. Sergi often appears in his videos.
Norman's videos have been watched billions of times. This success allowed him to earn money from YouTube. He also started getting attention from national media. Many news outlets called him a "web phenomenon." They noted that Norman and his friends, Cyprien and Hugo Dessioux, were young artists who were also very good at business. They managed their careers with great honesty.
As a popular internet star, Norman has been invited to appear in videos by many other video creators and friends. He often works with Hugo Dessioux and Marc Jarousseau on their YouTube channels. Cyprien, who is one of the most subscribed French YouTubers, has also collaborated with Norman.
Norman has also appeared on TV. He was in several episodes of "Very Bad Plagues" by the Palmashow. The Palmashow is a comedy duo who started online and now have sketches on the D8 TV channel. In December 2011, Norman was invited to the Les Arcs European Film Festival. Other YouTube stars and the Palmashow were also there.
On 12 January 2012, Norman organized "Zapping Amazing." This was a live show at the Grand Rex, a big venue in Paris. He brought together many web-comedy friends he had worked with. These included Palmashow, Kemar, Cyprien, and others. The comedians performed some of their most famous sketches for the audience. The show was very popular, with almost 3000 people attending. Because it was so successful, a tour was planned across France from 5 February 2013 to 15 February 2013.
He often works with Yvick Letexier, Cyprien Iov, and Hugo Dessioux.
