North Fair Oaks Festival facts for kids
The North Fair Oaks Festival is a fun, free event held every summer. It's a one-day festival in North Fair Oaks, California. This community is in San Mateo County. The festival celebrates food, art, and community spirit. You can enjoy live music, talent shows, and a parade. There are also food and craft booths. You can learn new things at informational booths. A special part is the Queen of the Festival scholarship award. There's also a raffle with cool prizes. The festival has two stages for all the performances.
Festival Fun
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office helps organize the festival. It brings together people from the community. Local businesses and law enforcement also join in. Everyone comes together for a day of celebration and fun.
Queen of the Festival Scholarship
A special part of the festival is the Queen of the Festival Scholarship program. This program helps young women in the community. It rewards those who do well in school. It also recognizes those who help their community. The scholarships help them go to college.
Young women who want to be the "Queen" sell raffle tickets. These tickets are for a drawing held during the festival. Winners can get travel packages, electronics, and other gifts. The money raised helps fund the scholarships. Each year, more scholarship money is given out. From 2007 to 2011, $54,000 was awarded. In 2012, $22,000 in scholarships was given.
Supporting Youth Programs
The money from the raffle and other fundraising efforts helps the scholarships. It also supports youth programs run by the Sheriff’s Office. These programs include:

Festival History
The very first North Fair Oaks Festival happened in the year 2000. About 1,500 people came to enjoy it. The next year, the festival grew a lot. More than 10,000 people attended! Since then, the festival has kept growing. Today, about 40,000 people come to the festival each year. The festival did not take place in 2020.
