North Vacherie is a special kind of community in St. James Parish, Louisiana, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts as a town for statistics, even if it's not officially a city or village.
In the year 2000, about 2,411 people lived there. A fun fact from the 2000 census is that Vacherie was known as a place where people tended to stay. They didn't move away as much as in other towns across the United States.
About North Vacherie
North Vacherie is located at 29°59′36″N 90°42′51″W / 29.99333°N 90.71417°W. It covers a total area of about 11.6 square miles (30.1 square kilometers). Most of this area, 11.0 square miles (28.5 square kilometers), is land. The rest, 0.6 square miles (1.6 square kilometers), is water.
Locally, people often call North Vacherie "Front Vacherie." There's also a place called South Vacherie, which locals call "Back Vacherie." Both of these areas are part of what is generally known as "Vacherie." The main road that divides them is Louisiana Highway 3127. It runs through the town from east to west.
