Locally, people often call South Vacherie "Back Vacherie." The whole area, including both North and South Vacherie, is officially known as "Vacherie." North Vacherie is often called "Front Vacherie." A common way to tell the two apart is Louisiana Highway 3127, which runs through the town from east to west. Another dividing line is St. Patrick's Street, which is about 1.8 kilometers (1 1/8 miles) south of Highway 3127.
