North Woolwich Old Station Museum facts for kids
The North Woolwich Old Station Museum was a cool place in North Woolwich, East London. It was a small museum all about trains and railways. The museum was inside an old train station building. This building used to be the main station for the Great Eastern Railway at North Woolwich.
The old station building was used to sell tickets until 1979. After that, it was empty for many years. On November 20, 1984, the Queen Mother officially opened it as a museum!
In 1985, the train line became electric and part of the North London line. But sadly, the line closed on December 9, 2006. The museum building was also used for some local community events.
What Was Inside the Museum?
The museum had lots of interesting things. You could see old items about railways in East London. There were also cool model trains. They even had a real steam train, but it didn't run anymore.
The Museum Closes
The museum officially closed its doors in November 2008. By 2011, all the things you could see from outside, like the trains and signs, were gone. Most of the items that were borrowed were returned to their owners. Other items went to different railway museums, like the East Anglian Railway Museum and the Mangapps Railway Museum. Some things were kept by the London Borough of Newham Heritage Service.
