History of Northwest
Northwest became an official city in 1993. This means it gained the power to govern itself.
Geography and Location
Northwest is found in the northern part of Brunswick County, North Carolina. Two main roads, U.S. Route 74 and U.S. Route 76, run along the southern edge of the city.
These roads are important for travel. They lead about 13 miles (21 km) east to the city of Wilmington. They also go about 33 miles (53 km) west to Whiteville.
Land Area
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of about 7.0 square miles (18.2 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the city limits.
