Northwest Arkansas Mall is a popular shopping center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is a great place to find many different stores and restaurants.
History of Northwest Arkansas Mall
The mall first opened in March 1972. It was originally called Northwest Arkansas Plaza. At that time, it was a single-level mall. It had about 570,000 square feet of space.
When it first opened, the mall had three main stores. These big stores are called "anchor stores." The original anchor stores were Sears, JCPenney, and Dillard's. Other early stores included F.W. Woolworth and a movie theater.
A big update and expansion happened between 1995 and 1999. Over 300,000 square feet were added to the mall. Some stores moved or became larger. Two new anchor stores were also built during this time.
The original JCPenney store was replaced with a much larger one. Part of the old JCPenney building became a food court. This food court, called "Pincic Food Court," had 12 fast-food restaurants.
A second Dillard's store was built on the other side of the mall. This new Dillard's sold men's and children's clothing. The first Dillard's store then focused on women's clothing.
Finally, the existing Sears store was made bigger. After all these changes, the shopping center became known as Northwest Arkansas Mall. It grew to cover about 820,581 square feet.
Today, the mall has more than 100 different stores. Its main anchor stores are the two Dillard's locations and JCPenney. The mall is managed by Namdar Realty Group.
