Norton is a small place located in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own official local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger Dubois and Orange counties.
History of Norton
Norton has a short but interesting history related to its mail service. In 1907, a post office was first opened in this area. It was originally named Dillon.
Changing the Name to Norton
Just one year later, in 1908, the post office's name was changed from Dillon to Norton. This new name stuck for many years.
When the Post Office Closed
The Norton post office served the community for several decades. However, in 1938, the post office was officially closed down. Even though the post office is gone, the name Norton continues to be used for this community today.
