Nortonburg is a small, unincorporated community located in Bartholomew County, Indiana, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city. It's part of a larger area called Flat Rock Township.
A Look Back in Time
Nortonburg was named to honor the Norton family, who were early settlers in this area. A post office was opened here in 1886. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. When it first opened, the name was actually spelled "Nortonburgh." The post office served the community for many years, but it closed down in 1912.
