Norway is a small community in Indiana, United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population information. However, it is not an officially organized town or city. Norway is located in Union Township, which is part of White County. In 2020, about 327 people lived in Norway.

A Look Back: Norway's History

The area now called Norway was first named Mt. Walleston. It was officially marked out in 1845.

Many of the first people who settled here came from the country of Norway. Because of this, the community was later given its current name, Norway. A post office was opened in Norway in 1898. However, it closed down quickly in 1899.

Norway is located at 40°46′55″N 86°46′4″W / 40.78194°N 86.76778°W / 40.78194; -86.76778. It covers a total area of about 0.9 square miles (2.4 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

Fun Places Near Norway

Norway is right on the Tippecanoe River. Just below the community is the Norway Dam. This dam creates a large body of water called Lake Shafer.

Lake Shafer is home to Indiana Beach. This is a popular amusement park and campground. It's a fun place for families to visit.

Norway's southern edge touches Monticello. Monticello is a larger town and the main city of White County. West of Norway, you can find the Pine View golf course and hotel resort.

Even though Norway is small, its location is very helpful. The Norway Bridge crosses the river here. This bridge connects West Shafer Drive and East Shafer Drive. This makes it easy for people to travel around the area. Because of this, Norway has several restaurants and other small businesses that continue to do well.
