You can find Norwood about 1.25 miles (2 km) east of U.S. Route 59 on Stafford Road. It is also about 2 miles (3 km) south of the line between Franklin and Douglas counties.

Norwood was named after a book! It got its name from a novel called Norwood: or, Village Life in New England by Henry Ward Beecher. This shows how books and stories could inspire the names of new towns long ago.
When Norwood Was Active
A post office was first opened in Norwood in 1868. This was a very important service for people living there. It allowed them to send and receive letters and packages. The post office closed and reopened a few times over the years. However, it finally closed for good in 1914. This was a sign that the town was becoming less active.
Norwood Today: A Stop on the Railway
Today, Norwood is known as a true ghost town. This means most of its original buildings and people are gone. It is no longer a busy community.
However, Norwood still has a special purpose. It serves as a stop on the Midland Railway. This railway is used for fun, recreational trips. Visitors can experience a bit of history as the train passes through.
