Nosaltres Sols! (which means Ourselves Only! in English) was a group in Catalonia, Spain, during the 1930s. It was a nationalist political movement. This means they strongly believed Catalonia should be an independent country. They started in 1931 and also had their own newspaper. Their main goal was to stand up against people they saw as enemies of Catalonia. This included those who wanted Catalonia to stay part of Spain, as well as other political groups.

Who Started Nosaltres Sols!
The group was started and led by Daniel Cardona i Civit. People called him Vibrant or L'irlandès (the Irishman). He was also the mayor of his hometown, Sant Just Desvern. Nosaltres Sols! was like a new version of an older group called Bandera Negra (Black Flag).
The Influence of Irish Independence
The name Nosaltres Sols! comes from the Irish phrase Sinn Féin Amháin. This means "ourselves only" and was a main slogan of the Irish political party Sinn Féin. Daniel Cardona was very inspired by Ireland's fight for independence. He visited Ireland many times.
Some historians have noted that members of Nosaltres Sols! also contacted groups in Germany and Italy. However, when the Spanish Civil War began, Nosaltres Sols! fought against both German and Italian forces. These forces were supporting the other side in the war.
Members of the Group
Many members of Nosaltres Sols! came from another political party called Estat Català. They disagreed with a decision to create a new party, Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (Republican Left of Catalonia). Other members came from Palestra. This was a Catalan youth group focused on hiking and nationalism. It was inspired by similar youth movements in other countries.
Nosaltres Sols! During the Spanish Republic
Nosaltres Sols! changed its name to l'Organització Militar Nosaltres Sols! (the Military Organization Nosaltres Sols!) or OMNS. This happened when a new law about Catalonia's self-rule was announced. They felt this law did not give Catalonia enough independence.
The group was very involved in the Events of 6 October. This was an attempt by the Catalan government to break away from Spain. Because of this, Daniel Cardona had to go into exile. While in exile, he met with members of Basque independence groups.
Nosaltres Sols! in the Spanish Civil War
In June 1936, a military uprising started the Spanish Civil War. Nosaltres Sols! stayed loyal to the Catalan government and the Spanish Republic. They fought alongside the republican army. They worked with the Estat Català branch and the forces of the Generalitat (the Catalan government).
After the Spanish Civil War ended in 1939, many young members of Nosaltres Sols! formed new groups. These included the Front Nacional de Catalunya (National Front of Catalonia). They also formed the Organització de Resistència nacional (organization of the national resistance). These groups continued to fight. They fought against German forces in France and later against the new government in Spain. They mainly used guerrilla warfare, which is a type of fighting where small groups use surprise attacks.
