Noshaq mountain

Noshaq (also spelled Nowshak) is the tallest mountain in Afghanistan. It stands proudly in the northeastern part of the country. Noshaq is part of the huge Hindu Kush mountain range. It is the second highest independent peak in the Hindu Kush, right after Tirich Mir, which is about 7,690 meters (25,230 feet) tall.

Noshaq is special because it is the westernmost mountain in the world that is taller than 7,000 meters (22,966 feet). The northern and western parts of the mountain are in Afghanistan. The southern and eastern parts are in Pakistan. This means the mountain sits right on the border between the two countries, known as the Durand Line.

Where is Noshaq?

Noshaq is found in the Badakhshan Province of Afghanistan. This area is known for its rugged and beautiful mountains. The mountain's location on the border makes it a shared natural wonder between Afghanistan and Pakistan. If you wanted to get close to the middle of Noshaq from the Pakistani side, you would likely go through a place called Chitral.

How Tall is Noshaq?

Noshaq reaches a height of about 7,492 meters (24,580 feet) above sea level. This makes it a very challenging climb for mountaineers. Its great height means it is often covered in snow and ice, even during the warmer months.

Why is Noshaq Important?

Noshaq is important for several reasons. As the highest point in Afghanistan, it is a symbol of the country's natural beauty and strength. For climbers, it offers a great challenge and a chance to experience extreme high-altitude environments. It also plays a role in the local environment, influencing weather patterns and providing water sources from its melting snow and glaciers.
