Nova's Early Life and Musical Family
Nova Miller was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Music runs in her family! Her mom, Claudia Müller Granström, is a flutist. Her dad, Johan Granström, is a bassist who has played with famous folk rock bands. Both of Nova's grandmothers were pianists, and her grandfather was also a musician. Nova even toured with some of these family bands when she was younger.
Learning to Play Instruments
Nova's main instrument is the guitar. She also plays the piano, violin, bass, recorder, and ukulele. She started playing the violin when she was just four years old. At age six, she began dancing. When she was nine, in 2010, she wrote her first song. She even started a girl band with her friends, where she sang and played bass. In 2012, she got her first guitar and began writing many more songs.
Nova's Music Career Journey
Nova's journey in music began with performances at a young age. She showed her amazing talent by singing popular songs at concerts.
Early Performances and Discovery
In March 2013, Nova performed Christina Aguilera's song "Hurt" in Stockholm. The next year, in January 2014, she sang "Buses and Trains" at a special concert to help children in the Philippines. She performed the same song again at a big charity gala for childhood cancer.
In mid-2014, when Nova was just twelve, a British music executive named Lolene Rothenberg discovered her. This happened at a dance school in Stockholm. Nova was invited to a music studio, where she again impressed everyone with her singing. She then attended music schools to improve her guitar and singing skills even more.
First Songs and EPs
In the spring of 2015, Nova signed with Universal Music. She released her first song, "Supernova," on June 12, 2015. This song became very popular online. Its lyrics talk about her experiences with bullying, which many kids can relate to.
Later that year, she released a Christmas song called "My Perfect Christmas." A Swedish newspaper even called it one of the best Christmas songs ever! In May 2016, Nova released "So Good," a fun retro pop song. Its music video was shown on MTV.
Nova released her first collection of songs, called an EP, titled Yellow on June 1, 2018. It included songs like "Anything for U" and "Turn Up the Fire." "Turn Up the Fire" was even nominated for 'Pop Song of the Year' at an awards show.
Her second EP, The Passion, came out on October 16, 2020. It featured singles like "Do It To Myself," "Mi Amor," and "Girls Like Us." She also released two more Christmas songs that year.
Nova's third EP, Sting, was released on July 29, 2022. It included songs such as "Apricot Skies," "Done," and "Cold Feet."
