Nurit Zarchi (Hebrew: נורית זרחי) is a famous Israeli poet and author. She writes many books for both children and adults. She was born in Jerusalem on October 19, 1941.
About Nurit Zarchi's Life
Nurit Zarchi's father, Israel Zarchi, was also a writer. Sadly, he passed away when Nurit was only six years old. After that, she grew up in a special community called a Kibbutz in a place called Geva. Later, she finished her high school studies in Ein Harod.
After serving in the military, Nurit went to college. She studied psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She also earned degrees in literature and philosophy from Tel Aviv University.
Nurit Zarchi has written many poems for children's newspapers. She also worked as a journalist for a newspaper called Yedioth Ahronoth. She has published over one hundred books! These include children's stories, poems, and other types of writing.
Awards and Recognition
Nurit Zarchi has won many important awards for her writing. In 1999, she received the Bialik Prize for literature. This is a very respected award in Israel. She shared this prize with two other authors, Aharon Almog and Yoram Kaniuk.
She has also won many other special awards for her literary work. These include the Prime Minister's Prize for Hebrew Literary Works. She has also been recognized by the IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) Honour List several times. In 2021, she received the Israel Prize for literature, which is one of the highest honors in Israel.
