What is a Ghost Town?

A ghost town is a town that has been abandoned. Most of its buildings are empty. Sometimes, no one lives there at all. Towns can become ghost towns for many reasons. Maybe a mine closed, or a railroad moved. Sometimes, natural disasters can make people leave. Nyala is one of these interesting places.

History of Nyala

Nyala was once a small community. It even had its own post office! The post office was open for many years, from 1914 until 1936. This means people lived there and sent mail. In 1941, a few years after the post office closed, about 68 people still lived in Nyala. The town's name, Nyala, comes from Nye County, where it is located.
