About the Loud Big-Eyed Tree Frog
Where It Lives
This unique frog has only been found in one specific place. Since the 1950s, it has been seen only on the eastern side of Goodenough Island. This island is part of Papua New Guinea. The frogs live quite high up, about 900 meters (or about 2,950 feet) above sea level.
What It Looks Like
The male loud big-eyed tree frog is quite small. It grows to be about 3.5 centimeters (or about 1.4 inches) long. Imagine a frog that's about the size of a large paperclip! Its skin is gray with brown patches on its back. This coloring helps it blend in with its surroundings.
Why It Needs Our Help
The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species lists this frog as "vulnerable." This means there are not many of them left in the wild. They face a risk of becoming extinct if we don't protect their homes and make sure they have a safe place to live. Protecting wetlands where they live is very important for their future.
