Nyi Pu (Burmese: ညီပု) was a famous actor and film director from Myanmar (formerly Burma). He was born on September 12, 1900, and passed away on September 1, 1996. He made history as the very first film actor in Burmese cinema. His younger brother, Tin Maung, also became a well-known film director.

Life and Career of Nyi Pu
Early Life and Education
Nyi Pu was born Ba Htay on September 12, 1900. He was the second son of Ba Nyunt and Nyein Shin. His birthplace was Prome (now called Pyay), during the time when Britain ruled Burma.
Starting in Films
In 1920, Ba Htay took part in the First University Strike. This was a protest against the British rulers. In the same year, he helped Ohn Maung, who wanted to make movies in Burma. Ba Htay used the screen name Nyi Pu, which means "Short Brother."
First Burmese Actor
In 1920, Nyi Pu starred in Burma's very first film, Myitta Nit Athuyar. This made him the first film actor in the country's history. He went on to make many silent films in the 1920s and 1930s.
Later Career and Legacy
After World War II, Nyi Pu continued his work. He made more films in the 1950s and 1960s. From 1969 to 1972, he was the chairman of the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization. This organization helps manage the film industry in Myanmar.
Nyi Pu passed away on September 1, 1996, in Yangon. He was survived by his wife, San Yin, and their five children.
