Cochranella cochranae Goin, 1961

Meet the Cochran frog, also known by its scientific name, Nymphargus cochranae. This amazing little frog belongs to the Centrolenidae family, which are often called "glass frogs" because some of them have skin so clear you can see their insides!

You can find the Cochran frog living in the beautiful rainforests on the lower slopes of the Cordillera Occidental mountains. These mountains are located in Ecuador and nearby Colombia. However, scientists are still working to confirm if the frogs found in Colombia are definitely this species.

What's in a Name?

The scientific name for this frog, cochranae, was chosen to honor a famous American scientist named Doris Mable Cochran. She was a very important expert who studied reptiles and amphibians, including frogs!

Where Does it Live?

The Cochran frog loves to live in special places called montane rainforests. These are mountain forests that get a lot of rain. They especially like areas along streams where the ground is very steep. These streams are important for their life cycle.

Protecting the Cochran Frog

Sadly, the Cochran frog is facing some challenges. Its natural home, or habitat, is being damaged or destroyed. This can happen when forests are cut down for farming or building. Protecting these rainforests is super important to make sure the Cochran frog and many other animals have a safe place to live and thrive.
