Núria Feliu i Mestres (born September 21, 1941 – died July 22, 2022) was a famous Catalan singer and actress from Spain. She was a very special part of the Nova Cançó movement. This movement was about new Catalan songs.

Núria Feliu's Amazing Career
Núria Feliu was born in 1941 in Barcelona, Spain. She grew up in the Sants neighborhood and lived there her whole life. As a child, she loved acting and singing. She was part of a theater group and sang in children's choirs.
Starting Her Music Journey
Núria began her singing career in 1964. She joined a group called "Els Quatre Gats". The next year, she released her first two albums. These albums had American songs that she sang in Catalan. Soon, she became a key artist in the Nova Cançó movement. This movement aimed to create new music in the Catalan language.
Becoming a Jazz Star
A composer named Antoni Ros-Marbà helped Núria's career grow. In 1966, she started singing jazz music. She worked with the famous jazz pianist Tete Montoliu. Núria became the first jazz singer to perform in Catalan. They released an album together with other musicians. Later, a collection of their songs was released in 1997.
Acting and Later Years
From 1991, Núria performed less often. She appeared in a TV show called Teresina S.A. She also took part in other TV programs. Núria acted in movies like El vicari d'Olot and Any de Gràcia. In 1995, she published a book of songs called Vols ballar?.
Núria Feliu retired from music in 2005. By then, she had recorded 50 albums. She had sung more than 400 songs! In 2007, she released a book and CD about popular Catalan dances called sardanas. In 2011, she celebrated 50 years as a singer. She held a big concert at the Liceu theater. Many other artists joined her. In 2016, she wrote her memories in a book.
One of her last public appearances was in 2020. She said, "I have not sung for the sake of singing, I have sung for the people." This showed how much she cared about her audience. Núria sang many types of music. She performed jazz, popular Catalan songs, and boleros. She also sang traditional Catalan sardanes.
Núria Feliu's Personal Life
Núria Feliu never married and did not have children. Her brother, Albert, was her manager. He helped her throughout her music career.
She believed that Catalonia should be independent. She supported the "yes" vote in the 2017 vote about independence. She also took part in many events for this cause.
Núria's health became weaker in her later years. She passed away in Barcelona on July 22, 2022. She was 80 years old. The Catalan government and news called her an "indispensable icon." This means she was a very important and loved figure in Catalonia.
