What Does O Páramo Mean?
The name Paramo comes from an old Latin word, Paramiensis. We first saw this name in a very old document from the year 1078. At that time, this name was mainly used for church areas.
A Look at History
The first time O Páramo was mentioned was between the years 569 and 572. This was during a big meeting, called a council, in Lugo. At this council, they decided how to divide Lugo into different areas.
A writer named Xoan Pallares e Gaioso, who lived a long time ago (from 1614 to 1698), wrote about this. In his book, he said that during the Council of Lugo, they set the borders for each area.
During the time of the Roman Empire, O Páramo was also a place where important events happened. For example, historical records mention that a group of early Christians faced difficulties on a hill in O Páramo.
