Oak Grove was once a small community located in Yuba County, California. It was situated near a stream called Dry Creek. Today, you won't find Oak Grove on a map because its original location is now covered by the waters of a large lake. This makes Oak Grove a "former settlement" or even a "sunken town."

The Story of Oak Grove

Oak Grove was a settlement that existed in Yuba County, California. It was located about 2.5 miles (4 km) west-southwest of a place called Oregon House. The area where Oak Grove once stood was about 1,158 feet (353 meters) above sea level.

Where Did It Go?

Today, the land where Oak Grove used to be is completely covered by water. This water forms a large lake known as the Virginia Ranch Reservoir. A reservoir is a big artificial lake. It is built to store water, often for drinking, irrigation, or generating electricity.

When the Virginia Ranch Reservoir was created, the water rose and covered the area where Oak Grove was located. This is why Oak Grove is now considered a "former settlement" or a "sunken city." It means the town no longer exists above ground.
