Oakland is part of the larger Tyler-Jacksonville combined statistical area.
History of Oakland
Oakland likely started as a settlement sometime after the American Civil War. This was a time when many people were moving and building new communities. In the 1930s, Oakland had a church, a small store, and a few houses scattered around.
After World War II, the store in Oakland closed down. By 1990, the community mostly consisted of the church, a cemetery, and several houses. In the year 2000, about 50 people lived in Oakland.
