Obaidullah Aleem (Urdu: عبیدالله علیم, born June 12, 1939 – died May 18, 1998) was a famous Pakistani poet. He wrote beautiful poems in the Urdu language.
A Poet's Journey
Obaidullah Aleem was born in 1939 in a city called Bhopal, which is in India. He later moved to Pakistan.
He studied at the University of Karachi and earned a master's degree in Urdu. After finishing his studies, he started working in television and radio. He was a producer, which means he helped create shows. He worked there until 1967.
First Steps in Poetry
In 1974, Obaidullah Aleem published his very first book of poems. It was called Chand Chehra Sitara Ankhhen. This book was very special.
He became a senior producer at Pakistan Television Corporation in Karachi. He continued working there until 1978.
His first poetry book, Chand Chehra Sitara Ankhhen, won a big award. It received the Adamji Prize, which is one of the highest honors for writers in Pakistan.
Later Works and Life
In 1982, Aleem wrote an article to remember a respected leader. The article was titled Khurshid missal shakhs.
His second collection of poems came out in 1986. It was called Viran saray ka diya.
In March 1998, Obaidullah Aleem became very ill in Punjab, India. He was treated in a hospital for a few days. He then went back home to Karachi. Sadly, he passed away on May 18, 1998, after another heart attack.
