Oberrieden is a town in Switzerland, located in the canton of Zurich. It is part of the Horgen district and sits right on the southern shore of Lake Zurich.

History of Oberrieden
Oberrieden is quite old! It was first mentioned in official records between the years 1133 and 1167. Back then, its name was Obrendrieden.
Geography and Land Use
Oberrieden covers about 2.8 square kilometers (1.1 square miles). A big part of the land, about 42.8%, is covered by forests. Around 15.1% of the land is used for farming.
Almost half of the town's area, 40.6%, is developed with buildings and roads. The remaining small part, 1.4%, includes natural features like rivers. The town is located on the left side of Zurich Lake and stretches towards the Sihl river.
People and Population
As of 2015, Oberrieden has a population of 5,027 people. In 2007, about 15.4% of the people living here were from other countries. The population has grown by about 11.6% over the last 10 years.
Most people in Oberrieden speak German (about 89.8%). English is the second most common language (2.5%), followed by Italian (2.0%).
Age Groups and Education
In Oberrieden, about 20.1% of the population are children and teenagers (0–19 years old). Adults (20–64 years old) make up 62.4%, and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 17.5%.
About 88% of adults (aged 25–64) have completed higher education. This means they have either finished a non-mandatory upper secondary school or gone on to university or a specialized college called a Fachhochschule. There are 2,133 households in Oberrieden.
Work and Economy
Oberrieden has a low unemployment rate of 2%. In 2005, a small number of people (50) worked in farming. More people worked in manufacturing (69 people) and even more in services (569 people). Services include jobs like retail, healthcare, and education.
In 2007, most working people (69.2%) had full-time jobs, while 30.8% worked part-time.
Religion in Oberrieden
In 2008, there were 1,460 Catholics and 2,135 Protestants in Oberrieden. According to the 2000 census, about 50.2% of the people were Protestant, with most belonging to the Swiss Reformed Church. About 28.9% of the population were Catholic. A small percentage of people belonged to other religions, had no religion, or did not state their religion.

Getting Around Oberrieden
Oberrieden has good public transport connections.
Train Stations
The town is served by two train stations that are part of the Zurich S-Bahn network:
- Oberrieden is on the S8 line.
- Oberrieden Dorf is on the S24 line.
These two stations are only about 400 meters (a quarter mile) apart.
Bus Services
The Zimmerberg bus line (also called Zimmerbergbus) helps people travel around the Zimmerberg region and parts of the Sihl valley. This bus service is run by the Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU).
Boat Services
During the summer, you can take regular boats from Oberrieden to Zurich and also along the lake to Rapperswil. These boat trips are operated by the Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft.
