The rock art from the Archaic period is often called Barrier Canyon style or BCS for short. These paintings are very unique. They often show figures that look like owls or ghosts. These figures usually don't have arms. They are very mysterious and interesting to look at!

How Were These Paintings Made?

The ancient artists from the Archaic period used simple tools to create these amazing pictographs. They often made brushes from plants like yucca or from animal fibers.

The paint itself was also made from natural materials. Artists would use plants like Indian paintbrush to get colors. They might mix these colors with things like urine or animal blood to help the paint stick to the rock. It took a lot of skill and knowledge to create these lasting artworks!
