Odd Brochmann (born December 21, 1909 – died October 27, 1992) was a talented Norwegian architect. He was also a university professor and a popular writer, especially known for his children's books.

Early Life and Education
Odd Brochmann was born in a city called Kristiania, which is now known as Oslo, Norway. His father was Diderik Hegermann Brochmann. Odd had a sister named Zinken Hopp, who became a famous poet and playwright. His uncle, Georg Brochmann, was also a well-known journalist. Odd studied architecture at the Norwegian Institute of Technology. He finished his studies in 1934.
His Work as an Architect
In 1937, Odd Brochmann started his own architecture business in Oslo. He worked with his first wife, Karen Berner. After World War II, he helped design many buildings. These included new homes in areas like Ljan and Tveita in Oslo. He also designed important social buildings across Norway.
From 1949 to 1956, he became a professor at the Norwegian Institute of Technology. Later, from 1952, he worked with another architect named Dag Rognlien. Brochmann also wrote books about how buildings and society are connected.
Odd Brochmann as a Writer
In 1963, Odd Brochmann stopped working as an architect. He moved to Copenhagen to focus on writing. He wrote for a newspaper called Politiken. He also wrote interesting travel stories.
Brochmann was also a skilled artist and illustrator. He drew pictures for many books. He is especially remembered for his children's books. Two of his popular children's books are Mariannes brev (1946) and Marianne på sykehus (1948). He also illustrated books for other children's authors, like Heljar Mjøen and Einar Schibbye.
Awards and Recognition
Odd Brochmann received many honors for his work. In 1981, he was given an honorary doctor degree from Chalmers University of Technology. He also became an honorary member of the Norwegian Architects National Association. He was even made a Knight of the Order of St. Olav, which is a very special award in Norway.
