Odell is a small, quiet unincorporated community located in Jackson Township, within Tippecanoe County, in the state of Indiana, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own separate local government like a city or town.
Odell is also considered part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's connected to the larger city of Lafayette, Indiana, and its surrounding areas.
Odell's History: How It Started
The area known as Odell was first settled in 1831 by a man named John W. Odell. He owned a farm there. Later, his son, Washington Odell, took over the farm.
This location was originally called "Odell's Corners." It became more official in 1871 when a post office was opened there. The post office helped people send and receive mail until it closed down in 1900.
