Ofahoma is a small place in Leake County, Mississippi, United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Ofahoma is found along Mississippi Highway 16. It is about 9.75 miles (15.7 km) west of a town called Carthage.
History of Ofahoma
The name Ofahoma comes from the Choctaw language. It means "Red Dog." People believe this name was given to a brave Choctaw warrior who lived there long ago.
This community is located near the Yockanookany River. In the year 1900, about 106 people lived in Ofahoma.
Ofahoma also had its own post office. It was open for many years, from 1866 until 1982.
