Ohayocon is a super fun three-day event for fans of anime, manga, and video games! It usually happens in January in Columbus, Ohio. The name "Ohayocon" is a cool mix of "Ohio" (where it's held) and the Japanese word Ohayou (おはよう), which means "good morning." It's like saying "Good Morning, Ohio Convention!"

Ohayocon's Journey Through the Years

Ohayocon started way back in 2001. It has grown a lot since then! In 2007, a special movie called Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles had its first showing in the Midwest at Ohayocon. As more and more people started coming, the convention sometimes needed more space. For example, in 2010, the dance party got a bit crowded. So, in 2012, the dance was moved to a bigger ballroom to make sure everyone had room to groove! In 2014, Ohayocon started using wristbands instead of badges. This helped make sure only people who had paid could get into the events. Ohayocon 2021 had to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the convention has continued to be a popular event for fans!

Ohayocon's Growth Over Time

Ohayocon has welcomed thousands of fans over the years. Here's a look at how many people attended in some key years:

  • In its first year, 2001, about 800 people attended.
  • By 2003, the number grew to over 2,000 attendees.
  • In 2005, more than 4,000 people came to the convention.
  • By 2007, attendance jumped to over 6,000.
  • In 2010, more than 10,000 fans joined the fun!
  • The convention reached 12,500 attendees in 2012, showing how much it had grown.

Ohayocon continues to be a big event for anime and gaming fans in Ohio!
