Oksana Lushchevska (born 17 February 1982, Talne) is a talented writer from Ukraine. She writes books for children and young adults. Oksana is also a translator and a poet.
She is an active member of PEN Ukraine, a group that supports writers and free speech. Oksana has written more than 50 books. Many of her books have won awards in Ukraine. Some were even chosen for the White Raven Catalogue, which lists the 200 best children's books in the world. Her books were also considered for the BBC Ukraine Children’s Book Award.
In 2020, Oksana won the Earth and Sky Poetry Contest. This contest was held in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her books have been translated into 6 different languages. They are published in 8 countries around the world.
Oksana is the official Ukrainian translator for some famous children's authors. She translates books by Eric Carle, who wrote The Very Hungry Caterpillar. She also translates funny poetry books by Julia Donaldson, known for The Gruffalo.
She used to review children's books for USBBY. This group helps connect young people with books. Oksana also shared her knowledge in different journals and blogs. These included the School Library Journal and The Bookbird.
Currently, Oksana works as a children’s literature consultant. She also helps create workshops for a group called STORY+I Creative Workshop Group. Oksana lives in State College, Pennsylvania.
Education and Learning
Oksana has a high-level degree in Education. She taught classes about children's literature at the University of Georgia. She also earned a master's degree from Pennsylvania State University. There, she focused on comparing different types of literature and children's books.
Before that, she studied Ukrainian and English languages and literature. She also learned about world literature. She completed these studies at the Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University.
Awards and Recognition
Oksana Lushchevska has received many awards for her writing. These awards show how much her books are loved and respected.
- 2017: Her book The Wind from Under the Sun was chosen for the White Ravens catalog. This catalog lists 200 of the best children's books worldwide.
